Optimal drug therapy means the right drug, for the right person, and for the right indication, at the right time.
The NPDUIS will provide comparable and comprehensive national information that will:
- Support analysis of drug costs and utilization;
- Enable evaluation of the impact of drug policy and program decisions;
- Inform existing and new pharmaceuticals management strategies; and
- Through potential future linkages with other datasets permit assessment of the role and impact of pharmaceuticals in health care and on health outcomes.
