New drug pricing: Will it be affordable?
Current trend with new vaccine launches:
- Initial prices are more expensive than established products (eg, Varicella, Prevnar, Menjugate)
- Recognizes that new vaccines take longer to develop (10-15 years) and cost more to develop ($600-$700 million)
BUT
- Does not recognize the higher cost of compliance for existing vaccines
