“Expenditures on basic research increased by 2.5% in 2001, but its share of total R&D continued to decline from 12.8% in 2000 to 16.1% in 2001. This is the lowest proportion of total R&D spending on basic research ever reported by patentees since the Board began reporting such information in 1988”.
